Recap of the Walking Dead finale (WARNING: here be spoilers)
BY: Mary Ann Bennett
Last Sunday
on AMC, The Walking Dead ended its psychological third season with more
deteriorating characters and heart-stopping violence. Jumping right into the
action of the awaited fight with the Governor's Woodbury army, the finale opens
on the cold-hearted Governor continuing his path of torturous punishment. The level
of the Governor's detachment with the world around him increases with each new
scene, as he abandons Woodbury to slink into the shadows. Not officially exiting
the series, the Governor retreats to an unknown location while maintaining a threatening
level of obsession in vindictive destruction.
All eyes turn to Carl in the finale,
as he starts to reflect characteristics of the unstable world he has matured in.
Spiraling into a stone-faced rage of rebellion against the cruel situations
thrust upon him throughout season three, Carl impulsively chooses to let his
mistrust of outsiders take over all of his actions. With Rick regaining control
of his mind and leadership of the group, it will be up to him to become a healthy
role model for Carl once again.
Two characters fall victim to the merciless
environment, resulting in an emotional scene with Michonne that fans will not
want to miss. Setting up for an intriguing season four, the finale brings new
hope for security within the prison walls.
The Walking Dead revives its new
season on Sunday, October 14th at 8pm (CST) on AMC.
